So should people put their credentials (MMR, hero winrates) in the guide post?

The solution? Display MMR, bracket, region, etc on each user's profile.

The expected outcome? No changes at all...

It was considered to make the tap to Dota 2 database, get MMR and display it on the profile (with an option to disable that). That idea got dismissed as it would only lead to elitism, something we want to eliminate on the forum.

Congratulations! You prevented elitism. Enjoy having a casual discussion board.

Dota 2 has been popular for years. Where can I have an intelligent discussion regarding this game? Nowhere!
You had a great opportunity to fill that niche in the market (for the 1%? - we don't need the whole damn forum, just give us one sub section with 'elitism'). Instead you chose to be another meme spouting community. Thank you?
Enjoy the informative content you will be provided by the average player - incoherent, incomplete, lacking in any true knowledge, with little to no effort in its creation.

    >Relax, you still have memes!

Umm... what's your behavior score? It should be visible for everyone so we can ignore rude people...

He makes a good point though. One of the reasons some PD discussion used to be valuable is because it's not written by people who think 2k's understand Dota because they are 2k.

Perhaps, but decency and respect are fundamental to any intellectual debate. And so is knowledge, of course. The way you make a point is just as important as the point you make, else you end up with gold within a rank turd.

I wasn't on the old PD, but I still consider discussions here to be valuable, such as the Medusa thread in meta-game discussion.

    Few problems with that.
    • There are due to statistics only handful of high rated players
    • High MMR does not necessarily mean that said player has vast game knowledge
    • Displaying MMR would lead to reddit circlejerk, where because you do not have enough karma you get downvoted. Alternatively if you say something that is not mainstream, you get downvoted as well. Obviously we do not have downvotes here but looking at someone with disrespect just because his MMR is low seems discriminating.
    • If you know a lot about Dota you can easily analyse opinions of others, evaluate what they have to say.
    • As far as I know memes are at OK level as of now, if you think something is beyond the line, go ahead and report it.

    • Also due to statitics boards like these tend to house a higher average skill base than the global game average.
    • It does, you do not get to 6k+ without understanding the game to a level a 4k player does not.
    • People on reddit do not look to your profile karma to decide to upvote or not. There is certainly a pattern in wording to which posts get up or downvoted, opinions that go against the grain must be constructed in a certain way to gain traction.
    • The issue is with people who do not know a lot about Dota and intend to learn from these discussions.
    • Thank god this place is not meme invested indeed :cat:

Some valid points, boys. It's crystal clear that this MMRless route was the way PDR wished to go - whether for better or worse.

Where are these mythical 6k players giving wisdom to us lowly plebs?
I reiterate that quality is far superior to quantity.

Universal truth is not measured in mass appeal.
