A friend of mine started dota 2 years ago, now he has 3'000 matches. His rmm was calibrated very low, he is 800 right now, but he plays in normal around 2500 rmm. Why isn't there any option to recalibrate it?
He has a lot of items right now, isn't a good idea to put like re-calibration option usable once a year or such?

There actually was a way to "recalibrate" using "International Ranked" in the time leading up to last year's TI. 10 Calibration games followed by 40 more were required to turn your International Ranked Rating into your regular MMR. Perhaps they will offer the same feature again when that time of the year rolls by.

But unless they reintroduce that feature or something similar to it, your friend will have no choice but to play Ranked like the rest of us. Sounds like he should have a fairly easy time against <1K players.

Yup. They should definitely do that often, offer a recalibration option.

Except that "option" was bullshit as there was literally no difference to normal ranked, all the "calibration" matches were actually at your current mmr.

The only people benefiting from that shit were soviet abusers with feeding bots on unpopulated servers.

Tell him to grind outta there or make a new account.

I used to think playing ranked and grinding out would be hard. I saw my friend get to 3k from 1.2k just by improving his farm. So far I've gotten to 2k from 1.5k a while back. If he's playing against 800 mmr, it's not hard to win, I tried playing 800 mmr with my friend once, it was easy as shit and I'm trash at the game.

I played one ranked game today. Monkey King died once, and then decided to feed down mid 15 times.

I looked at his profile and he just got out of playing 12 games in low prio.

Luckily he was on the enemy team, so that's an easy +25MMR for me :)

I told you guys he already did buy some stuff so changing account wouldn't be cool. Ofc after getting better he will easily win many games, but even if he gets to 1,5k or 2k he is going to have hundreds of shitty games where either he can carry the team or he won't and will lose the game due to abandoners, purpose feeders and so on. I think an option to calibrate once a year without spending money could be a solution to this, why would a player do such a hell of trip just to get to his actual level?
Anyways he's bought the TI so problem is solved for him: still I think the option would be good for others. But I assume it may not be possible because that would create a lot of space for account sellers ecc.

I am 4k and I think I'm shit a DotA too, and so what? Why wouldn't he get the opportunity to play versus shits of his level? You are quite harsh anyway so why am I even answering you :D

The "calibration" is just 10 matches with the same people in your current mmr,and some people that are brand new to the game.

It's basically the Fucking shittiest thing/idea/concept I've seen in the whole world, right next to trump being president

Thanks for the free smurf mmr account right after you banned smurf accounts.
